On the occasion of the Beijing auto show, Peugeot unveils the world premiere of the new 408 that wants to be the notchback and "registered" version of the 308 priority for the Chinese market.
This new version in a few months successor to current version incorporates the latest stylistic design codes of the brand with lines and forms that express, as Peugeot, a perfect harmony between robustness, elegance thanks to a balance of shapes . Well, one thing is sure, this new 408 is more visually pleasing than the old one but will not revolutionize the "C Superior" Chinese market segment to which it is intended. It is well made, classic and in the spirit of the recent 308 which it derives. The peugeotistes have noticed and appreciated the return of the lion in the center of the grille which is a foretaste of what we should see next year on the 308.
This 408 Mk2 is based on the new platform EMP2 and more specifically on its long-wheelbase variant inaugurated by the 308 SW station wagon there a few weeks. Using this modular platform wheelbase 2.73 my design permits a long sedan 4.77 m which is positioned between the 4.44 m and 4.81 m 301 508.
The new 408 will benefit from the petrol engine the "highest" PSA, namely the unmatched L4 1.6 L THP in a version with system S-Series as marketing Peugeot hastened, as in Europe, of called "Micro Hybrid". Peugeot has benefited from the launch of this model and the presentation of the concept Exalt to announce a big 4-cylinder engine derived from the 1.6-liter THP was under development and will join in a few times the 1.6 L.
No pictures of the interior, it will be in a few months at launch but there is a safe bet that space travel the 408 will be very close if not similar to our 308 except perhaps to rear seats that will benefit from more legroom.
Hopefully we discovered this sedan in Europe as it does not seem planned for our markets in plans for Peugeot.
