Lamborghini celebrates at the Paris Motor Show the world premiere of his first concept car with plug-in hybrid technology, the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4. Clearly a Lamborghini, the Asterion is a technology demonstrator with a plug-in hybrid drive, which clearly meets the values and standards of the brand with the bull: The Asterion shows a way to reduce significantly with the help of innovative technology, the CO2 emissions.
It also guarantees the unique Lamborghini driving experience with smooth and spontaneous power delivery and with superior performance and also offers an extraordinary, pure electric range of 50 kilometers.
Designed and developed was the Asterion LPI 910-4 Lamborghini in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Its design and its leading technological position based on the current Lamborghini models, enriched with innovative hybrid technology. This created a whole new Lamborghini style, with a surprising and sensual design that fits perfectly to the technical character of the car - and yet unmistakably a Lamborghini.
The use of a plug-in hybrid for the Asterion LPI 910-4 is a clear and consistent decision of Lamborghini. The Asterion offers pure electric driving in urban areas, and only battery operated a range of 50 kilometers is possible. At the same time he has the emotion and the power of a naturally aspirated engine of Lamborghini and thus guaranteed a unique driving experience. According to the NEDC standard for plug-in hybrid vehicles is limited to the consumption of 4.12 liters per 100 kilometers. The objective of significantly reducing emissions was clearly achieved with very low CO2 emissions of 98 grams per kilometer, while retaining the exciting and inspiring Lamborghini driving experience. The entire hybrid technology weighs 250 kg.
The base of Asterion is a monocoque, which is made entirely of carbon fiber. The 5.2-liter V10 engine is installed as the Lamborghini supercar as longitudinal mid-engine. The ultra-fast seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sits behind the engine. The powerful lithium battery, however, uses the space in the center tunnel in front of the engine, which is usually reserved for the transmission. This ensures an optimum weight balance of the vehicle and protects the battery also in the case of a side impact.
For the hybrid architecture of Asterion include an electric motor with the functions of an integrated starter-generator (ISG), which is placed between the V10 engine and dual-clutch transmission, and two more electric motors on the front axle, which are supplied by the ISG with energy and a torque vectoring function feature.
This system allows the Asterion two different driving modes: Hybrid mode combines the V10 engine with three electric motors, which regardless of the charging status of the battery allows a permanent four-wheel drive. In purely electric driving mode, however, are only the two electric motors on the front axle in use.
The vehicle in mid-longitudinally mounted V10 naturally aspirated engine generates a maximum power of 449 kW / 610 hp and a maximum torque of 560 Newton meters. In combination with the three electric motors that deliver another 220 kW (300 hp), the maximum system power is 669 kW / 910 PS. Thus, this hybrid system guarantees an extremely dynamic Acceleration: Acceleration from a standstill to 100 km / h takes just 3.0 seconds.
The maximum speed of Asterion LPI 910-4 in hybrid mode is 320 km / h in pure electric mode and it reaches 125 km / h. More important for the urban mobility is the pure electric range of 50 miles - the peak value among the super sports car with hybrid drive.
