The French automaker has benefited from the opening of the exhibition in Jakarta in Indonesia to sign and formalize an agreement with the local automaker Indomobil to start on site Duster, Koleos and Mégane RS in the coming weeks and months.
Renault wants , with this agreement, to penetrate the Indonesian market is growing rapidly and in high demand because with 247 million people, one car market in the month of 1.1 million vehicles, the countries of South Asia - is currently driving growth (> 6 %) of the region where there are Singapore, Malaysia , the Philippines , Thailand and Vietnam . With about 35 vehicles per 1,000 people, Indonesia is one of the most promising Asian and Renault wants to integrate the country into the second phase of its strategic plan for the Asian automotive markets .
About Indonesia, Gilles Normand , Director of Asia-Pacific operations Renault said: "What we had set a goal (...) is to become by 2016 the first European brand in Indonesia . And in the longer term (...) the goal is to reach 5% market share. "
At first , it's Duster 1.5 dCi L will be the spearhead of Renault in Indonesia , followed by the Koleos and the Mégane Sport version is primarily intended to highlight the dynamics of Renault picture. To distribute its cars , Renault will build on Indomobil ( partner Nissan for 32 years in the Indonesian market ) . The company is going to create in some countries 45 exhibition halls dedicated to Renault by early 2016.
Renault explains that this partnership is first business in its first phase but become industrial in 2015 as the French brand will launch several vehicles assembled locally ( by Indomobil ) and constitute a new offer adapted to the market which is mainly held by the Japanese manufacturer. Nissan is also 6 % of the market with about 67,000 cars sold last year.
