Range Rover Evoque PHEV: Plug-in hybrid with 3-cylinder Petrol Engine

The development of the new generation of the Range Rover Evoque is obviously quite advanced. As the British trade magazine Autocar reported, this time with the offshoot PHEV for the first time a plug-in hybrid with three-cylinder gasoline will be available.

Similar to the system at the BMW i8, the new generation of the Range Rover Evoque will also be used for the first time on the hybrid drive and will also replace the diesel with a 3-cylinder petrol engine. So two premieres at once. The plug-in hybrid PHEV gets a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine with turbocharging as a base, which is then supported by an electric motor. It does not seem so clear yet, however, whether one is building on a powerful electric motor or whether one would rather opt for the 48 V electrical system including a small lithium-ion battery, a so-called mild hybrid.

In addition to the Range Rover Evoque PHEV, the Brits have also announced other variants of Range Rover Sport and the normal Range Rover with plug-in hybrid, which can then build on a larger petrol engine. The electric motor should then find its place between the internal combustion engine and the gearbox.
