Opel Insignia: Second IntelliLux Generation for the Middle Class

The Matrix light has been reserved for the Aros K, but now the new LED headlights are also available for the upcoming Opel Insignia. The development has advanced further than three years ago and so now the new Intelli-Lux generation gets.

If the IntelliLux LED matrix headlights were previously only ordered for the Astra K, the second IntelliLux generation will be available for the mid-class in 2017 in the new Opel Insignia. Compared to the system in the compact class vehicle, the new sedan comes with 32 rather than 16 LED elements as before.

In the three years since the market launch of the new lighting system, however, the engineers have not just worked on a doubling of the light points, that is, 16 pieces per headlight, but also developed new functions simultaneously. This was made possible by the generally very rapid development of the LED elements, which have become smaller, so that now more elements can be installed with the same available space. This allows not only a slimmer headlamp structure but also a clean transition between the individual light functions.

Opel Insignia: Second IntelliLux Generation for the Middle Class
Ingolf Schneider, Head of Lighting Technology at Opel, said: "From Astra, we know how much customers appreciate the advantages of the IntelliLux LED® matrix headlights. With the all-new Insignia, we are now introducing the second generation of innovative lighting technology - new features for an even better night vision. "There is now also a new" highlight "in the high beam mode, because there the light intensity during cornering elevated. This has been achieved by the engineers in which they light up the inner matrix element particularly brightly, resulting in a better illumination of the curve. A special high-beam beam is provided for a larger beam, which extends the light range up to 400 meters. The new system will also be able to recognize city boundaries automatically. If it has identified a location output, the low beam automatically switches to the main beam and continuously adjusts the length and distribution of the light cone to any traffic situation. This should work both on the highway and on the motorway, without ignoring the oncoming traffic.
