2017 Audi A8 (D5): Extremely Smart Luxury Class

So smart was not yet an Audi A8. The new model, internally known as the D5, offers a full 41 driving assistants, piloted driving in traffic jam, and a new active suspension system, which increases the vehicle's speed by up to 8 cm. 

In November 2017, the new Audi A8 (D5) comes onto the market, with which one would like to go back to the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This is made possible by a lot of technology. The new model is an extremely clever luxury class, since from 2018 the sedan will be able to drive fully automatic up to 60 km / h, provided the legal foundations have been created by then. The Edel Bayer is to become the world's first production car to control the so-called "Level 3". This means that the driver does not have to touch the steering wheel up to a speed of 60 km / h. Audi called the feature "Traffic Jam Pilot".

But in the new A8, there are 41 additional assistance systems that make the driver's life as easy as possible: among them the park and garage pilots. This allows the car to park all by itself while the driver controls the whole thing by app from outside the vehicle. Another new feature is the voluminous, electromechanical suspension system, which in combination with the standard air suspension and a camera recognizes percussions by itself and then presses them out. For the first time in an A8: a rear wheel steering. Also the new active gear is of course on board. In order to supply all these features with power, the A8 draws the energy from a 48-volt electrical system for the first time.

Two Models 3.0-liter 6-cylinder diesel engines with 286 hp and 350 hp are available for market launch. 2018 two V8 units with four liters of displacement are to be added (TDI with 435 hp and TFSI with 460 hp). Also to have from the coming year: the hybrid A8 e-tron with 449 hp system performance as well as the A8 W12 planned for autumn 2018 with a 585 hp twelve-cylinder petrol engine. All engines are equipped with the well-known ZF 4-speed automatic transmission and a 48-volt starter generator. The prices for the 5,17 m long vehicles produced in Neckarsulm start at 90,600 Euro, the 13 cm longer long version A8 L starts at 94,100 Euro.
