Slowly but surely, even the luxury sports car manufacturer from the vicinity of Modena thinks that combustion engines will determine our mobility forever and ever. Here, too, one thinks about what the mobility of the future will look like. A first result of these considerations is the electric sports car Lamborghini Terzo Millennio. Of course, the concept comes in the usual, brute Lambo look, but under the body and in itself hide many innovations.
The lightweight design and aerodynamics concept, developed with the support of two Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) laboratories, is an electrically powered four-wheel drive vehicle designed to deliver new excellence in electric mobility. And when you work with scientists and thought leaders, often quite unusual ideas come to the fore.
Although the E-Super athletes are also guided by the possibilities of existing technology, they also rely on a great deal of innovation: So-called supercaps are used as energy stores instead of normal batteries. The supercapacitors can quickly deliver peak power while recovering kinetic energy. Thus, the influence of aging and cycle operation on the power storage during the vehicle life is to be severely limited. In addition, the electrical energy can be symmetrically released and recovered and the useful life of the supercapacitor technique is very long.
Another innovation of the electric powerhouse is the carbon body, in which rechargeable nanoparticles have been integrated. This should also serve the body as energy storage and also the outer skin itself should be able to heal. In the carmaker's vision, the body itself is supposed to monitor and small damages, such as cracks, are filled with chemicals that spread through microchannels.
The drive follows the concept that will be sitting on every wheel a powerful electric motor. The electric motors will be integrated and networked together. Thus, you have a true four-wheel drive, but not the entire vehicle must traverse. This gives the design and aerodynamics concept new freedoms. When, if and how the vision as a production vehicle on the market will come is not yet known.
